Restaurant Review - Las Palmeras (San Francisco)

01.15.2008

Las Palmeras Restaurant
2721-23 Mission Street
San Francsico, CA

We were too early for Charanga's so we went here instead. Not a straight-up Mexican restaurant--it also had Venezuelan dishes. Complimentary chips & salsa. Watch out, it's spicy!

Augustin had:
Horchata with a Venezuelan breaded palm dish. The horchata was different from what we've had in the past. This one had a hint of chocolate, almost as if it was infused with Butterfingers. The Breaded palm dish was bitter and weird. Good experience though. I wanted some flan, but they were out.

Anneke:
Mango drink with a chicken tamale and cheese stuffed chile combo plate. This was the softest and moistest tamale ever. The stuffed chile was very much like a chile relleno except this was not breaded. Also had a Mango drink, which wasn't very memorable -- definitely pass on that one.

We spent ~$25

Bottom Line: Good food at a clean hole-in-the-wall joint with good service at a good price. Would recommend going there if you're in the area, otherwise not worth a walk through the Mission.
